BEST bus driver beaten up for ‘rash overtaking’

Mumbai: Two bike-borne Colaba residents were arrested for allegedly dragging a BEST bus driver out of the vehicle and beating him up on Tuesday near Electric House.

The driver, Rohedas Kute, had reportedly overtaken the accused’s bike rashly. The accused, Ravindra Patil and Anil Gaikwad, then chased the bus and stopped their bike in front of it. The duo began arguing with Kute and then punched him. They fled after beating up Kute, who approached the Colaba police station and lodged a case against the two. Kute was taken to St George Hospital and was discharged after first aid.
“The exact provocation for the assault is not known. The incident took place near Colaba Causeway. Our guards, posted at the BEST headquarters in Electric House, came to Kute’s rescue. The accused have been booked for obstructing a public servant on duty and attacking him,” said BEST spokesperson Virendra Bagul. The accused were released on bail.
