Police facility on terror radar

Mumbai: Security has been beefed up at the police motor transport unit (MTU) headquarters in Nagpada after the authorities reportedly received inputs that it could be targeted by terror groups. 

    The MTU is located next to the state anti-terrorism squad (ATS) headquarters opposite M H Saboo Siddik College. Vehicles of policemen are repaired and refurbished by the section. The MTU, which is housed in a large compound, contains a
fuel pumping station and a century-old mosque, Moti Masjid. “Earlier there was a threat to the ATS headquarters. Now we have been told notto allow anyonewithbags
inside the compound. Many come to offer namaz but this is the first time that we are not allowing people to carry bags. A terror group may take advantage of the situation,” said an MTU officer.
“The fuel pumping station is located close to the mosque. There have been incidents when anti-social elements have succeeded in setting off an explosion at petrol pumps or oil refineries,” he added.
    The police have locked other gates of the MTU and allowed a single point of entry and exit, which is manned by armed policemen. People entering the premises are asked to produceID-proof.In May,TOIreported that the Indian Mujahideen planned to attack offices of the ATS.
