Salem escaped this time, but we’ll not spare him: Shakeel

Mumbai: A day after underworld don Abu Salem was shot at in Taloja jail, a red-faced state government instituted an inquiry and suspended four prison staffers, including a jailor, for dereliction of duty. Around 8pm on Thursday, Salem was fired at by Devendra Jagtap alias JD in the prison’s high-security ‘anda cell’.

On Friday, various theories emerged on the motive behind the murder bid and on how Jagtap managed to smuggle a gun into the jail.
Police sources said the hit might have been ordered by Dawood Ibrahim aide Chhota Shakeel through Vijay Shetty, who is reported to be in Malaysia. Shakeel told TOI that Salem had ditched ‘bhai’ (Dawood) by tying up with Chhota Rajan and that he wouldn’t be lucky the next time.
