Mumbai: A constable and three clerks posted at the Mumbai crime branch headquarters were booked on Wednesday for submitting bogus hospital bills.

The four—clerks Santosh Palande, Anand Dalvi, Shankar Jadhav and constable Rajesh Pawar—were under the scanner for sometime, said an investigator. “The clerks cleared hospital and medical bills of policemen. Our personnel can avail of cashless

treatment schemes in hospitals. However, some who don’t submit their documents on time and seek reimbursement,” a police officer said.
“They submit their documents to the clerks. We suspect the clerks also sought bribes to process the medical reimbursement,” he added. “They were never admitted to a hospital. Some fake hospital bills are in the name of their dependants. In some cases, the names of doctors and consulting surgeons are fictitious,” said a cop.
