Photojournalist hangs self at Shivaji Park flat

Mumbai: Senior photojournalist, Gajanan Ghurye (58), on Saturday allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his Shivaji Park residence. He was known for his political photography.

The Shivaji Park police, which registered an accidental death case, said Ghurye was not keeping too well and this could be the reason for his taking such an extreme step. His family came to know about the incident in the morning. His body was found in his third floor flat in Sai Charan apartment.

Ghurye had connections in several political parties and would get an opportunity to click exclusive pictures. He had been providing political photographs to several media houses in the city.

Photographer Arun Kulkarni said, “Ghurye was suffering from some illness for the last three months and was fed up with it. I met him on August 5 and he had said he would come to Mantralaya soon.” Ghurye was cremated at Shivaji Park in the evening.
