Mateen Hafeez TNN

Mumbai: A case of passing a casteist remark at a sweeper was registered against JJ Hospital dean T P Lahane by the police on Friday.  Lahane denied the charge. The employee union threatened a hunger strike if he was not arrested and suspended.

    Hospital insiders said
CCTV footage would be gone through to reveal the truth.
Complainant Naresh Waghela (35) said he was asking a sweeper why he was working despite a strike by temporary staff for permanent jobs when Lahane appeared and abused him.
“Waghela said Lahane also threatened him,” inspector Shashikant Surve said.
