Mumbai: Victims of sexual abuse or assault will no longer have to relive the trauma of having to visit a police station and recounting their ordeal to a male cop. Police chief Rakesh Maria said he would send woman officers to the residences of such complainants if they express, on helplines, their discomfort in visiting a police station.

Among the steps he announced were a special grievance redressal desk for women and the aged at every police station, a unit to lodge a complaint about a missing woman or child at police stations and patrolling by lady cops in crowded areas. P 3
