Mumbai: The JJ Marg police have submitted an application in the court requesting to record the statements of a four-year-old nursery student’s parents before a magistrate. The police are probing a case of alleged molestation of the toddler by school bus driver Shahbaz Shaikh. The accused is facing charges under various sections of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Shaikh was arrested on February 12 night and remanded in police custody till February 20. “The sections of the newly introduced POCSO Act are very strong. In such cases the complainant’s (in this case parents) statements are recorded before the magistrate. The accused is a pervert and we are questioning him,” said a police officer. Shaikh, said the police, has molested the little girl several times even though a female attendant was present in the bus. The story came to light when the girl refused to go to school and later told her mother the reason why she didn’t want to go to school.
