Mumbai: Investigations into Sunday’s firing outside the Colaba flat of property dealer, Ritu Bhatia (42), have revealed that it could be the fallout of a property dispute. An unidentified man fired one round at the door of Bhatia’s flat on Sunday evening and fled. No one was injured in the incident.

A case of attempt to murder has been registered against four people from Lonavla. The suspects include Anil Kalekar, A Nalawade, Bandu Phatak, all real estate agents, and an unidentified person. Nalawade and Kalekar have been arrested.

Bhatia, whose husband is in Dubai, was alone at home when the incident took place. According to the police, Bhatia had purchased a 14-acre plot in Lonavla for Rs 7 crore.

“There were a few shanties on the land and three of the accused managed to get the power of attorney for the huts. They then demanded a huge sum of money to vacate the plot after which the matter went to court. Bhatia said that as the court decision went in her favour, she was targeted,” said an officer, adding that Bhatia told them about another attempt on her life by Kalekar, Nalawade and Phatak.
