Mumbai: Investigations into the case of a tantrik have revealed that he had also raped the 22-year-old domestic help of the complainant and had forced four girls to undergo abortions. The tantrik had come in contact with the victims’ family after their mothers had delivered mentally challenged sons. The accused, Mehdi Hasan had promised to cure them with black magic but instead raped them.
According to a victim’s statement, Hasan, who had posed as Javed Nadim Khadim, would drug the girls before raping them. “He suggested that the victims go in for abortions, claiming that if they did not, no man would marry them,” said a source.
He was arrested by the JJ Marg police on Sunday and a court on Monday remanded him to police custody till December 3.
The oldest victim, who works as a domestic help, is 22. The 19-year-old victim is a commerce student in a south Mumbai college. The third, aged 18, is from Colaba and is an MBBS student. The fourth is only 13 and is a resident of JJ Marg. The fifth is a 17-year-old. All the girls are cousins. Details of two girls were not available.
The victim’s statement revealed that Hasan forced four victims, except the 13-year-old, to undergo several abortions. “It was a middle man, Javed Nadim Khadim, who introduced Hasan to the family. Hasan would sometimes pose as Khadim. The police are hunting for Khadim to record his statement and check if he was aware of Hasan’s activities,” said a source. Hasan has been booked under section 376 (rape) and section 312 (causing miscarriage) of the IPC.
