Mumbai: Yasmeen, wife of 26/11 terror attack accused Faheem Ansari, had a “long day” on Monday. “I woke up at 5 to offer namaz for my husband’s acquittal. I cooked and then left for the high court for the judgment,” said Yasmeen. Faheem and co-accused Sabahuddin Ahmed were acquitted on Monday.

“We were expecting the acquittal as my husband had no role to play. We are satisfied that justice has been done. This success is a tribute to Faheem’s first lawyer, Shahid Azmi,” said Yasmeen. Azmi was shot down on February 11, 2010 at his Kurla office.

Only Faheem’s family was present in court. “Mujhe behad khushi ho rahi hain aaj. Ab main intezaar kar rahi hoon (I am elated. I am now waiting to see him),” Yasmeen said. An family friend said the trial was an “an excellent example of how Muslim youth were victims of injustice”.

Faheem has spent more than three years in jail, but now his family is praying for his early release. They said they would contest any appeal by the state in the SC. Faheem, who was not taken to court on Monday, offered Namaz-e-Shukrana at the Arthur Road jail at 1 pm when heard about his acquittal.
