Mumbai: A property dispute seems to be the motive behind the murder of a mosquetrustee who was shot in Dockyard Road on February 14.The Byculla police and the crime branch claimed that Akhtar Hussain Ansari (57) had a land worth Rs 2 crore in Mumbra thathehad given out to a builder for development. He had a dispute with the builder and that might have led to his murder, a police official said.
“We have questioned the developer but are yet to reach a conclusion,” said the police. Incidentally, Ansari’s sons and wife are in the dark about the land. “His family does not have any clue about this property,” said the officer.
A four-storey building has come up on the plot and the rest of it is lying vacant, the officer added.
Ansari was headed for home in Madanpura around 9.30 pm. “Ansariwas riding on a bike. Two assailants shot him from behind. It seems a heavy-bore weapon was used as the bullet entered Ansari’s back (right side) and pierced intohisheart,” said an officer.
The police have so far questioned more than 30 people but have not got any clue. “He receivedsomethreatsbut no one can elaborate on it,” said a source.
