Mosque trustee’s murder solved

Mumbai: With the arrest of three persons, the city crime branch on Monday claimed to have solved the murder case of Akhtar Hussain Ansari, a mosque trustee. The deceased, a Madanpura resident, was shot dead by two unidentified persons near Dockyard Road on the night of February 14. Those arrested include a Mumbrabased developer, Farooque Siddiqui (38).

Ansari, who was returning from Dockyard Road to Madanpura on a motorbike, was shot at by two persons on another motorbike who approached him from the opposite direction. The bullet damaged Ansari’s lungs and heart severely and he succumbed on the spot.

“We have also arrested one Ramzan Shaikh and Mohammed Hussain alias Nannhe (35), an Uttar Pradesh resident. Siddiqui had given them a supari of Rs 3.2 lakh over a property dispute,” said Himanshu Roy, crime branch chief.

In 2006, Ansari approached Siddiqui to develop his 4,500-square-foot plot. Ansari was given 30% of the flats while the remaining flats were given to Siddiqui. In 2008, Ansari once again approached Siddiqui to develop another 4,500-square-foot plot. “Siddiqui told us that he had been asking for an agreement but Ansari did not do so. This time, Ansari was supposed to get 26% of the constructed flats. However, he demanded 30%... We are in the process of verification,” added Roy.

DCP Nisar Tamboli said that they were still hunting for the shooter and expect to make a breakthrough soon.
