After 20 yrs, man held for murder

Mumbai: The crime branch detected a murder case after 20 years. Uttar Pradesh-based gangster, Afroz Khan, was booked for killing a bakery worker on February 18, 1991. The murder had taken place in Raushan bakery in Kandivli and the case was closed after the police could not trace the murderer.

Khan (32) was arrested on May 12 in connection with supplying firearms to city gangsters. “Khan at that time was employed with the bakery. He fought with co-worker Zubair Babu Khan and fled. The Kandivli police had also visited Barabanki where Khan resided but he was not found there. The case was later classified ‘A’ (true but not detected). During our interrogation, he has confessed to this murder and we will be reopening the case with the court’s permission,” said crime branch chief Himanshu Roy. A minor fight over a few rupees had led to this murder, Roy said.

The police had seized seven firearms when they arrested Khan and his associate, Mohammed Siddiqui (30). They had come to sell these weapons to some gangsters in the city.The two suspects posed as visa agents and stayed at a Kandivli hotel.
