Mumbai: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad recently picked up a duo from a Bandra guest house in connection with the Delhi high court blast. However, intensive interrogation revealed that the two were not involved in the blast and they were allowed to go.

The two, aged 25 and 27, hail from Uttar Pradesh and are said to be carpenters. An informer told the cops about the duo, saying that they looked like the suspects in the sketches released soon after the blast. “Based on this tip-off, we picked the two up on Thursday night,” said ATS chief Rakesh Maria.

“They went to New Delhi last week on a tour and from there, came to Mumbai and then to Goa. After their Goa trip, they returned to Mumbai, where they were staying at the guest house. Our teams brought them to the ATS unit and questioned them thoroughly,” Maria said.

ATS sources said the two provided the phone numbers of their kin, their previous employers and friends. “We checked their baggage and verified other things. Nothing suspicious was found. They told us that they were out of a job and so decided to go on a tour,” an officer said.

An ATS team also crosschecked the information about the duo with the UP police and the Special Task Force.
