Mumbai: A letter believed to be sent by members of terror outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM) threatens to target three temples in Thane district.
Security
has been stepped up at Ambernath’s Shiv temple, a Sindhi temple in
Ulhasnagar and Shahad’s Birla Mandir. The letter does not bear IM’s
insignia and investigators are trying to ascertain its authenticity.
“We
have also received an input from intelligence agencies,” said a senior
police officer from the Thane crime branch. Authorities at Birla Mandir
received the letter on Thursday night. The Shiva and Birla temples have
received similar threats earlier. Bipin Kumar Singh, Thane’s joint
police commissioner, said, “Security has been tightened following the
threat. Similar threats were received earlier,” he said.
In
February, the crime branch started a probe into a threat letter sent to
Reliance Industries Ltd chairman Mukesh Ambani allegedly from the IM
threatening to carry out a terror attack on his Antilia residence in
south Mumbai.
