4 held for murder of moneylender

Mumbai: With the arrest of four persons, the crime branch claimed to have solved the March 23 robbery and murder case of a moneylender near Metro cinema. The accused had robbed the victim, killed him and fled with ornaments and cash collectively, worth Rs 11 lakh, near Metro cinema.

The arrested have been remanded in police custody till April 15. The police have recovered Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and Rs 5-lakh gold jewellery from them. According to the Azad Maidan police, the deceased, Alpesh Jain, was alone at his first-floor office. “The accused posed as poilcemen and went to Jain’s office. They then tied Jain’s hands and legs with a rope and gagged him with a handkerchief. After killing Jain, the accused fled with jewellery and cash,’’ said Himanshu Roy, crime branch chief.
